Carnegie Institution for Science [#154]

In 1903, millionaire Andrew Carnegie received approval from the congress to form what is now called the Carnegie Institution for Science to fund and perform scientific research. Since then, numerous discoveries have been attributed to the institution (check their contributions to astronomy and genetics). The Beaux-Arts building on 16th Street was built in 1910 and currently houses administrative functions of the Institute. In the illustration, a couple is waiting for the bus in front of the building.
