The Cairo [#196]

Regular price $30.00 $0.00

The Cairo building in the Dupont Circle neighborhood was once a luxurious hotel, a center of high society and, at one time, a complete dump filled with drug dealers.

Immerse yourself in itsWikipedia pageto learn how this 164 ft “residential skyscraper” caused the legislation that limits the heights in the city (many people believe it was because of the Washington monument). Regardless, The Cairo has one of the best views in town. It was from there I took a reference forthis otherpostcard.

Next time you’re close to Q Street, stop by and admire the gargoyles above the entrance and griffins on the cornices.
